The mathematics department seeks to insure that every student of Redeemer Lutheran will meet or exceed the minimum requirements of mathematical competency as set forth by New York State’s Common Core Curriculum. In doing so, each student will develop a more comprehensive understanding of subject matter, by thinking critically and applying that knowledge to the real world.
The middle school curriculum, in its entirety, is designed to continue students' development of mathematical fluency, problem-solving skills, mathematical reasoning, and ability to communicate mathematically.
The curriculum focuses on the following five strands: Number and Number Sense; Computation and Estimation; Measurement and Geometry; Patterns, Functions and Algebra; and Probability and Statistics.
By studying each of these strands as delineated in the middle school curriculum, students will best be prepared for high school level course work in mathematics.
